My neighbor is doing something called #100happydays, where she posts things/sights/people that make her happy. In turn, it makes me happy, so I like her idea. There are so many people who are happy despite their poverty, their war-torn surroundings, their seemingly miserable conditions. Here in the land of the free and home of the brave we have filthy rich celebrities constantly trying to numb their misery, then checking themselves into rehab. Or corporate CEOs who take their own lives after feeling crushed by responsibility and deceived into feeling inadequate. Matt and I have always been curious about happiness. We consider ourselves very happy people. We really have no reason not to be. But what about those people that have so many reasons to pity themselves and be sad, but don’t and aren’t?
Six youngs adults in Tehran recently were arrested for dancing to Pharrell’s “Happy.” Government officials called their moves obscene. Ha! Watch the video:

They just look like a bunch of kids expressing their happiness via dance! Ironic how the song, which really does make you want to jig out your happiness, put these people in prison. All are out now, except for the director of the video. Point- these kids are in Tehran, and want the world to know Iranians are happy! Iran may have experienced it’s share of turmoil, but happiness is still alive and well.
Siberia. Another place I’m confident I would not want to live. After watching the documentary “Happy People” which follows a Siberian trapper who lives in solitude with his huskies during much of the year, away from his wife and kids, lives in a self-constructed cabin and endures -50 degrees fahrenheit. He loves his simple life and really loves his dogs. Watch it:
